It amazes me that a simple game of ping pong was able to overcome a diplomatic barrier between the U.S. and China. A white, plastic ball was more effective in reaching peaceful negotiations than highly skilled politicans from the United States. The sport was able to gain the U.S. access to China because it was a cultural similarity. The U.S. was not granted access prior to the ping pong tournament because it was trying to impose American culture on the Chinese. The Chinese were willing to negotiate after finding a common link, even if the link was a small as a ping pong ball.
i find it very funny that ping pong can be used in such an important way in politics. I tink it is funny that Gordon Brown was supject to this "Ping Pong diplomacy." I think it would be even more funny if George Bush took part in this.
