It was really enjoyable seeing the leaders of the WWI countries rap the crap out of each other in a roast of their own doing, while learning of history at the same time! Aside from the comedy it did clearly present the powers of the war in their alliances, the Triple Entente especially. It also favored in the side of the entente in the rap; starting off with Austria roasting Serbia, then Russia verbally destroying, then germany steps in to defend, while Britain wraps it up putting Wilhelm in his place.; March 2, 2016 at 1:16 PM

I did, hoever, know about the Lafayette Escadrille, the French air fighter squadron that took the skie by storm against the german aces. A few Americans who disagreed with the US's decision to not join the war enrolled in the program and one of them became the Entente's flying ace and very successful. Also, the graden planting program i the US by Hoover was intriguing because it reduced national consumption by 15%.; March 2, 2016 at 1:23 PM
Izaiha said...: THe WWI myths video was eye-opening for sure. There were over 100 modern countries invlolved or impacted, over 70 Billion men mobilized. There was also even a British Camel division in Palestine, i cant imagine fighting on a camel can be too effective though. Also, the upper class, scholarly soldiers/officers were actually a greater percentage of the casualties in Britain. Eton University alone lost nearly 1000 former pupils to the war, 20% died. Being a junior officer in the battle of Somme meant a life expectancy of only 6 weeks, and 17 out of 100 junior officers died as opposed to 12/100 regular soldiers. THe video had more mind blowing facts, and truly changed my view on the war, at least on the british point of view.; March 2, 2016 at 1:32 PM
Nathan said...: First I watched the 5 Darkest Photos of World War I. It was fascinating. They dug 22 mine shafts and loaded them with over 400 tons of explosives, then blew up 10,000 Germans in one swell foop. They didn't show shell shock in the same way that we saw it in class, it was just a guy smiling in a trench, which I suppose could be considered deranged.

Next I watched "SELFRIDGE MILITARY AIR MUSEUM- WWI Flying Ace Eddie Rickenbacker 1956 w/intro by Walter Cronkite" (WWI Aces). They didn't say all that much but the details about the planes were interesting. They flew at only 120 miles per hour, and as high as 20,000 feet without oxygen. Pilots must have been very brave and have excellent lungs to perform at that time. Wouldn't they have experienced issues with the pressure change? By that I mean their ears and possibly even air held in their lungs.; March 3, 2016 at 4:45 AM

I watched "Origins: Rap Battle - WW1 Uncut - BBC", and it opened with "Yo, your fatty Franz Ferdinand didn't see Princip's pistol" so I knew it was going to be good. I imagine that the world leaders at the time didn't have rap battles but I think that might have made history better. Wilhelm acknowledged the French's "snail-sucking, frog cooking, garlic stench", so apparently we were right with our assessment of France, and this confirms it. They did sort of demonize Germany in the video, but it was from BBC which might explain a bit of bias.; March 4, 2016 at 5:25 AM
