The first site I went to was about Catherine the Great. She was the empress of Russia from 1762 until she died in 1796. In 1744, Catherine was taken to Russia to marry the young Grand Duke Peter, the heir to the throne. After 7 years, the empress Elizabeth permitted her to take a lover. Gregory Orlov was one of her lovers for around thirteen years. In June 1762 the Grand Duke was murdered by the Orlov brothers and Catherine was sole ruler. It was a thorough process. The court physician would first examine them, then they would be passed on to the Countess Bruce, who would interview them, inform them of what the empress liked and did not like in bed. Then she would proceed to try them out, to ensure they were all they were all they promised to be. Only then would they be brought to a suite of rooms, where a box of 100,000 roubles would be their payment.

The second site I went to was about Blaise Pascal. Pascal was a child prodigy who was educated by his father. In 1642 he invented a calculating machine to help his father, who served as Royal Tax Commissioner at Rouen. He is often credited with the discovery of the mathematical theory of probability and he also made contributions to number theory and geometry. In 1655, Pascal met Antoine Arnauld who was a Jansenist philosopher and theologian. In the Provincal Letters, Pascal defends Arnauld and Jansenism against the Jesuits. Pascal died in 1662 at one of his sister's houses.

The first article I read was about Antony van Leeuwenhoek. Although he was born with to fortune or family background in the sciences, through perseverance, he made drastic discoveries through microscopic analysis. Growing up, he dappled in many trades and eventually found interest in microscopes from a copy of Robert Hooke's book on microscopic images. He created his own microscopes which were basically powerful magnifying glasses. He often wrote to the Royal Society of London to describe his observations and discoveries. Many people such as Tsar Peter the Great were interested in his studies.
The second article I read was on the education of women, written by Daniel Defoe. He believed that the world's reluctance to educate women was barbaric. Women were supposed to be quick and witty yet they were denied proper instruction. He recognizes that women are a gift from God, and if they were given ample opportunity they would be able to shine display their intelligence and creativity. For a women in the absence of an education will, for her entire life, be yearning and desperate for any sort of learning, even if it is not factual or important. His main point is that the world would be a far better and interesting place if women were allowed to be educated.

The first page that I visited was about deductive and inductive reasoning. It explained how deductive reasoning goes from general to specific starting with a theory and ending with a confirmation. In contrast to deductive is inductive reasoning which is explained as going from specific to general. Inductive reasoning starts with an observation and ends with a theory. It also mentions that inductive is open-ended while deductive is more narrow.

The second page that I read was about Catherine the Great and her lovers. During her marriage to Peter, he had no interest in making a child. Catherine was told to have a lover in order to have a child. Once she was pregnant she convinced Peter that the child was his. Catherine began to enjoy her lovers and even had a section curtained off in her room for them. In 1762 her husband, then the king, was murdered by her lover. Catherine continued to have lovers after her husband's death by a careful examination and interview process.

The first site that I read about was the site about education, this site started with education and its advances in the Enlightenment will Roussero and went all the way to Froebel and his creation of Kindergarten. This article was quite interesting in the idea of expanding on the ideas that Roussero started in the enlightenment and expaned on the entire movement of education.
The second article that I read about was the article about inductive and deductive reasoning. Inductive reasoning is the idea of having an idea and then experimenting on it, while deductive reasoning is the idea of having something happen and trying to prove it with science.

The first article I read was on Catherine the Great. More specifically, her many lovers. Early on, she specifically enjoyed young soldiers. In fact, she also had a curtained off area in her bedroom where her lovers would show up. A strange and interesting fact I learned, was that Peter III had a disability with his "area", where he had a very tight foreskin that prevented him from "Rocking the Casbah" with Catherine. This was one of the motivations for her to take up lovers.

The second article was about Blaise Pascal. He was brought up to be a mathematician by his father, and at age 16 published his first piece of mathematics. This eventually allowed him to invent a calculating machine to help his father, who was the royal tax commissioner. Pascal would later experiment with mercury and vacume, and publish work proving a vacume could exist above the mercury in a barometer.

The first site I visited compared the two methods of reasoning, inductive and deductive. Deductive reasoning starts with a theory and moves to prove this theory through experiments oriented around the confirmation or disproving of the theory that has already been developed. Inductive reasoning begins with the observation of patterns in things around us. Experiments are then conducted and data from these experiments are then used to develop hypotheses and theories. Though these two methods are very different, nearly all research employs some element of each of these.

The second site I visited was about the discoveries of Antony von Leeuwenhoek. After receiving a very basic education and completing an apprenticeship as a linen draper, Leeuwenhoek returned home and opened a shop where he sold linens. After reading of the discoveries of Robert Hooke, Leeuwenhoek became interested in microscopy and even began building some of his own basic microscopes. Though Leeuwenhoek is often credited as being the inventor of the microscope, compound microscopes had existed roughly 50 years before his birth and he was building microscopes with only one lens. Leeuwenhoek examined many specimens including lake water, the sperm of other animals, and plaque. After his discoveries and the writings on the topic, Antony was admitted to the Royal Society of London. Leeuwenhoek remained in his hometown of Delft, Holland conducting experiments an putting on presentations, such as one on the circulatory system of eels for Peter the Great, until his death on August 30, 1723.
