i read the article on punishements during Elizabethan times. The hung people until they were half dead and then took them down and quatered them while they were alive. That is horrible because those who were beinging punished actually felt being chopped into pieces. To me that is a horrible crime but back then that was a reasonable crime. Another thing was if you committed suicide you were burried in a field but they stick a stake right through them. To me these crimes seem ridiculous but during this era they were very reasonable crimes.
i read the article about the Tower of London and the tourture. um, EW! i cannot believe they would tourture a person like that, it's so unhumane! i also think that the Father was a very strong willed person and had a lot of faith to keep his secret, i know i would have told to get out of the tourture! i've actually been to the Tower of London and saw some of the tourture mechanisms, it just blows my mind that they were actually used, some of them, like the one in this article, just look painful.
I read about Crime and Punishments around the time of Elizbeth. It's amazing to me how people could do such harmful things to others and not feel remorse. If someone robbed somebody intentionally they got their right hand chopped off next to where they robbed. Then they were either hung or got another terrible punishment. Back in these times it wasn't uncommon for these things to happen but i still think it's terrible.

i read the eyewitness to history account of Mary Queen of Scots death. It was a horrible account, in my opinion, as focused on her suffering, making Elizabeth out to be a villain. It calls the executioner "the devil"! it also says that Mary was involved in plots to assasinate Elizabeth, which is debatable.
Falling for the bias, I feel for Mary Queen of Scots. She is a sad result of dynastic kingdoms and marriage for power. It is pitiful, the way people behaved (and still do). I would be interested to see the other side, perhaps watch the Elizabeth movies with Cate Blanchett to see Elizabeth's side of the story, because I doubt from her perspective that her subjects told Mary she "must die!" or any of the other wicked things they did, like interrupting her prayer by chopping off her head.
i read about the torture on the tower of London. i thought it was interesting that the man being tortured was a Jesuit because Jesuits are a Roman Catholic order. So I don’t understand why it says that Father John Gerard and his fellow priests were going to minister to the Roman Catholics. Loyola fought for Charles V so the two religions must be quite similar.
I also thought that Father Gerard was very brave, courageous, and honorable. i don’t think i would ever be able to endure the pain he went through. i don’t know if i could ever have the amount of faith he had. He must have been in so much pain and yet he continued to pray and trust in God. i thought that was amazing. i thought it was interesting how in the end he was able to escape.
