Sigmund Freud's ideas reflect many of the feelings of the time. First he believed that dreams were subconscious wishes that the dreamer wants to fulfill. One of these desires he believed was of a son wanting to kill his father and marry his mother. During this time people began repressing their children's sexuality keeping girls and boys separate leading to create unhealthy tension. Also the fathers were becoming more and more those "bringing home the bacon" and father figures became more strangers to their children. The times helped Freud come to the conclusions that he did about dreams and their meanings. This also shows the new ways of studying and thinking about the human mind and how it works.
